New building for the Institutes for Chemistry/Pharmacy and Theoretical Medicine at the University of Innsbruck

Partition walls for lecture rooms and louver system for guiding daylight

In one of the largest current building projects in Austria in the education sector, the new chemistry/pharmacy and theoretical medicine building will house the science faculty of the Leopold-Franzens University, Innsbruck and the research groups of the Medical University of Innsbruck on the same inner-city site on Innrain.

The Innsbruck architectural workshop, din a4 ZT GmbH, has responsibility for master planning.

Together with the Öhringen firm of Eheim Möbel GmbH, HÖLLER is participating in the interior outfitting for the project, manufacturing mobile partition walls and wall cladding with an innovative form of integral sun protection that uses a louver system to guide daylight into the lecture rooms.

The sun is reflected in the same way as a closed hanging, but the RetroFlexJalousie remains open and transparent. Sensors angle the system to deflect heat and glare, while at the same time –irrespective of the level of daylight – the rooms are illuminated by light deflected onto the ceiling, even when the sky is slightly cloudy.
